Guest Artist Fred Chilton
It is a privilege to have Fred Chilton at our June meeting for a
demonstration. He now works exclusively in watercolor and occasionally
in mixed media. His watercolors have earned him national acclaim. His
work has been published in Watercolor Magic Magazine; The Artist's
Magazine, La Ventana Magazine, and New Mexico Magazine and numerous
other publications and books. He is listed in Who's Who In American Art
and is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society. Fred was
the recipient of the Grumbacher Gold Medal Award. He received Best of
Show three consecutive years in the New Mexico Watercolor Society annual
members exhibition. He received "Best of Show" in the Sierra Providence
Annual Exhibition at the El Paso International Art Museum in 2002.
Chilton has received four awards in the 2006 annual competition of
Watercolor Magic Magazine. One of Fred's many observations about the
process of painting is: "The beginning of a painting is exciting, and
the end is exciting. The middle is pure, hard labor.” His interest in
Mariachi Music, The National Folk Music of Mexico, its customs,
traditions and the acoustic instruments makes this tradition his
favorite subject to paint, Chilton says, " Anyone who has never heard
live Mariachis close up, unamplified, is missing one of the true thrills
of life. Please join us for the June 8th meeting which will be held at
the Main Library at 1:30 p.m. If you would like to see Fred’s work and
